Organizers of the Vuelta a Burgos announced late Tuesday night that all members of the Israeli Startup Nation team (riders and staff) who were tested for COVID-19 at the race tested negative.
Alex Dowsett, along with Itamar Einhorn, had withdrawn from the team to participate in the Spanish stage race as a precautionary measure after another athlete on the team, Omer Goldstein, tested positive for coronavirus before the race.
Goldstein, who did not participate in the race, tested positive on Monday, but was contacted before Einhorn traveled to Burgos. Einhorn was quarantined from the team and tested Monday night, but had already been in contact with Dowsett at the team hotel.
During the five-day race, the team's backup staff was also tested along with Einhorn and Dowsett, all of whom tested negative.
"A review of the tests submitted by Team Israel Startup Nation to the COVID-19 committee in Burgos confirmed that all PCR tests for the team in Burgos were negative.
"These double tests were performed on all [individuals] who had been in contact with athletes who had tested positive for PCR last Saturday and who, as a precautionary measure, were not allowed to be at the start.
Bora-Hansgrohe's Felix Großschartner won the first stage in Burgos on Tuesday and will wear the leader's jersey on Wednesday's second stage between Castrojeris and Villadiego.
