Tour de Pollogne Suspended Due to High-Speed Crash
[Dutch champion Fabio Jacobsen (Deceuninck-Quick Step), Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo-Visma), Marc Sarrault (Groupama-FDJ), Jasper Philippsen (UAE Team Emirates) and Damien Touze (Cofidis), Eduardo Prades (Movistar), and at least half a dozen others were injured in high-speed crashes on the opening stage of the Tour de Pollogne.)

Jacobsen suffered the most damage and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Jumbo Bisma issued a statement on the accident, writing: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Fabio Jacobsen and all those who were involved in today's terrible crash at the Tour of Poland. Such an accident should never have happened."

Groenewegen and Jacobsen collided elbow-to-elbow just before the finish line, causing the Detunink-Quick Step rider to hit the course barrier.

The impact caused Groenewegen to fall, while Philipsen was unable to avoid the fallen Jumbo Visma rider and the barricade caused the other rider to fall.

Salo and Touze were conscious and taken to the hospital for further examination, but Philipsen's team reported only bruising.

Groupama-FDJ later reported that Sarrault, who finished second in this stage, had damaged ligaments in his shoulder and would not continue the race.
