Richard Calapaz (Team Ineos) abandoned the Tour de Pollogne after crashing while wearing the leader's jersey on stage 4 on Saturday.
Carapas, from Ecuador, crashed midway through the hilly stage and hit the pavement on the right side. However, Lemko Evenpole succeeded in winning the 51km solo stage and lost the torn yellow jersey.
Carapas, who took the overall lead after his victory on Friday, finished the stage unchallenged, but dropped to 16th place in the overall standings, 3:21 behind Evenpoel. On Sunday morning, it was decided not to start the fifth and final stage as a "precautionary measure" for next weekend's Il Lombardia.
"Richardo was in pain after the crash, so at this stage it is better to give him time to recover and not start the stage today," said sport director Matteo Tosatto.
"It's the best solution for him because from here he will enter the Giro (d'Italia) Recon and head to Lombardia.
Team Ineos doctor Alistair Park spoke about the details of Kalapas' injury.
"Richard has skin defects from the crash and muscle pain, mainly in his right side abdomen and right hip. He appears to have snagged the handlebar during the crash and has contusions and bruises. His recovery is being monitored.
Ian Stannard dislocated his shoulder in the same crash, so Team Ineos will start the final stage with five riders. Ian Stannard will be examined in hospital and will return to the UK for specialist treatment.
"Ian dislocated his right shoulder in the crash. Therefore, we took him to the hospital for X-rays and a CT scan.
"He will now return to the UK to see a shoulder specialist. After the reduction, he will have a second x-ray to make sure there are no problems. That second scan will tell us more about the nature of the injury."
