Bahrain McLaren will fully back Spain's Mikel Landa in the Criterium du Dauphiné starting Wednesday.

Landa competed in the Spanish one-day race, Circuit de Getxo-Memorial Hermanos Occhioa, last week, where he fell far behind in 71st place, which was second overall behind Remco Evenpole (Deceuninck-Quickstep) in the Vuelta a Burgos This was the day after he finished second overall behind Remco Evenpole (Deceuninck-Quick Step) at the Vuelta a Burgos.

Matej Mohoric and Sonny Colbrelli will make sure Mikel is always in a safe place, and Damiano Caruso will be Mikel's last man and road captain on the climb. [Pero Bilbao and Rafa Valls will serve as the "mountain engine" for Mikel, and Dylan Theuns is there as the "team anchor" for the mountains and positioning.

Landa is the Tour de France winner for Team Ineos and Jumbo Visma, Egan Bernal, Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas, and Primoz Roglic at the five-day Dauphiné in Clermont-Ferrand, France (August 12-16), Steven Kruijswijk, and Tom Dumoulin.

Others are Nairo Quintana (Alcare Samsic), Tadey Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates, Adam Yates (Mitchelton Scott), Richie Porte of Trek Segafredo, and Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale), will race in France this week if they have recovered sufficiently from their crash at the Tour de Occitanie.
