Patrick Bevin will join Chris Flume at Israel Startup Nation in 2021. The experienced all-rounder joins on a two-year contract from the CCC team. [The team is] ambitious. It has the desire to grow and compete in the biggest races in the world, and that ambition is fascinating. This progressive attitude, coupled with a commitment to team culture, creates an incredibly positive environment. I believe I have more to give to the sport, and I believe ISN is the place to make that desire a reality," Bevin said in a press release issued by the team.
Bevin has established himself as a strong individual time triallist in recent years, finishing fourth in the time trial at the World Championships last September. A member of the CCC team for the last two years and previously with BMC Racing and Slipstream Sports, the 29-year-old came close to signing with Mitchelton Scott two years ago before joining CCC and came within a hair of winning the 2019 Tour Down Under
Israel.
Israeli startup Nation is building a Tour de France team around Froome and sees Bevin as an important part of the future team. He can ride the flats, he can be useful in team time trials, and he has the ability to lead the pack in the mid-mountain stages. Bevin's natural ability is best shown in time trials.
"I love this discipline and everything that goes with it. I want to wear the ISN colors in the time trial and get the most out of my ability.
"On the road, I always want to be an asset to the team. With the ever-expanding program and the goals that come with it, my broad range of abilities will help put ISN in the spotlight as much as possible."
Israel Startup Nation announced the acquisitions of Karl Fredrik Hagen and Daryl Impey last week, and their continued activity in the transfer market comes after Nils Pollitt decided to leave the team to join Bora Hansgrohe.
"Over the last few years, Patrick has shown great potential in both short stage races and TTs. He will be an important piece of support for Chris and will also get a chance in other races. I also believe he will prove his worth in races where he has not had the opportunity to achieve results in the past," said director Kjell Carlström.
On Monday, Israel's Startup Nation also announced the signing of Sebastian Berwick from Australia's St. George Continental Cycling Team. The 20-year-old was second overall in the Jayco Herald Sun Tour and second in the Australian National He was second in the U23 road race.
"My second place at the U23 Nationals and the Herald Sun Tour was a super start to 2020, where I showed everyone what I can do on the big climbs," he said.
"I want to learn and grow from the best and most experienced riders in the group. I will use every opportunity to help the leaders in the mountain stages and other opportunities, and seeing ISN strive to be one of the best teams in the world (especially in stage races) was a clear choice for me."
