The UCI has confirmed the cancellation of all remaining scheduled men's UCI World Tour and women's World Tour events in China for the remainder of the season at the request of race organizers due to ongoing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
The men's Tour of Guangxi is now scheduled for November 5-10, while the women's Tour of Chongming Island (October 23-25) and the one-day Tour of Guangxi (November 10) have all been cancelled.
Wanda Sports, the organizer of Guangxi, had already announced the cancellation of two events earlier this week, and the world governing body has further confirmed the cancellation of the Tour of Chongming Island, meaning that no events will be held in China for the rest of the year.
"The UCI regrets that the 2020 UCI international road calendar will not include these races, which play an important role in the development of road cycling not only in China but in Asia at large. We also thank all those involved for their cooperation in this difficult situation and look forward to hosting the 2021 event," the statement said.
"Therefore, the 2020 UCI World Tour will end at the Vuelta a EspaƱa (October 20-November 8) and the 2020 UCI Women's World Tour will conclude on November 8 at the Serratigit Madrid Challenge in La Vuelta (Spain).
At the same time, the UCI added that the UCI Para Cycling Road World Championships in Cascais, Portugal next year have been moved up from late August to June 9-13, 2021, due to the change in the Tokyo Olympics dates from 2020 to 2021.
"The UCI is pleased to have found an optimal solution with the event organizers and thanks them for their cooperation," the governing body said.
