Trek-Segafredo's Elisa Longo Borghini will be looking for her third career win at the Giro dell'Emilia Internazionale Donne Elite in Bologna, Italy, on Tuesday, having also won in 2015 and 2016. This UCI 1. Pro rank women's one-day race was won last year by Demi Vollering of Parkhotel Valkenburg, who held off Longo Borghini on the final climb of San Luca.
The race is usually held in October, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 calendar has been changed to mid-August.
"The Giro delle Miglia route is easy to read and almost flat up to San Luca, which is the springboard, but we need to be in good shape because the final climb is not loose," Longo Borghini said on the team website Monday. Hot weather will also be an important factor, as it was in the first races in the Basque Country and Strade Bianche."
The 28-year-old Italian has just returned from a high-altitude training camp at the Isola 2000 ski resort in the Alps, where he trained with teammates Lucina Brand, Ruth Winder, and Taylor Wiles.
"The Giro delle Miglia has always been my favorite race and the finish fits my characteristics. The Giro delle Miglia has always been my favorite race and the finish fits my characteristics. Longo Borghini, recalling being passed by Vollaring just before the finish line, said, "I still have regrets about the way things ended last year. [not only on a personal level, but above all as a team."
The Ekip Paul Ka team will not be competing in Tuesday's race due to the theft of the team's bike, which was staying at a hotel in Bologna on Saturday night.
Longo Borghini's Trek Segafredo team also suffered theft late last month on the eve of Strade Bianche, but was able to participate by using a spare bike or borrowing one from the men's Trek Segafredo team.
