Kruijswijk leaves Tour de France Jumbo Visma team with broken shoulder

Jumbo Visma announced that Steven Kruijswijk will miss the Tour de France after crashing at the Criterium du Dauphiné. He suffered a dislocated shoulder, a broken bone, and multiple abrasions.

Kruijswijk was supposed to be part of the Jumbo-Visma leader trio with Primoz Roglic and Tom Dumoulin. However, he has recovered from his injury and hopes to compete in the Giro d'Italia in October.

"Unfortunately, the consequences of my crash in the Dauphiné were more serious than expected. Very unfortunately, due to a broken shoulder and many abrasions, I will not be able to participate in the Tour de France," Kruijswijk said in an announcement from the Jumbo-Visma team.

"I wish the team good luck at the Tour and I am very sorry that I will not be able to participate.

According to Dutch reports, Kruijswijk will be replaced by Norwegian Amund Grondahl Janssen, giving the Jumbo-Visma team even more strength on the flat and undulating roads.

"Steven has given his all over the last few months and sacrificed everything to start the Tour de France in the best possible way. But top sport is tough.

"I am very disappointed that we can't continue with our plan." Amund Grondahl-Janssen will replace Steven. Amund is well prepared and will support the team and the team leader to the best of his ability."
