Giro Rosa's Team Announced; Secchini and Fournier to SD Works - Women's News Short Sports

The 2020 Giro d'Italia International Feminile will take place over nine days from September 11-19, with 24 teams representing 14 countries competing for the pink jersey in the 31st edition.

The Women's World Tour late season calendar, released in May, will feature 12 events from August through November. The Giro Rosa is one of only two stage races on the calendar and will bring together top riders, including defending champion Annemieke van Hulten (Mitchelton-Scott), who will be looking for her third consecutive victory.

"The Giro Rosa is growing every year and this September event will confirm that. Soon we will be able to talk more about the individual participants, but given the level of the team, I am inclined to say that it will clearly be a glittering competition at the start. I must thank the girls and the spectators for their love and support during these difficult months. It promises to be a good restart," said Giuseppe Rivolta, director of the Giro Rosa.

Eight UCI Women's WorldTour teams and 16 UCI Women's Continental teams will start the race with a team time trial in Grosseto, Tuscany. There are four summit finishes this year, including the final day in Motta Montecorvino.

Italy's Elena Cecchini and France's Roxanne Fournier have signed with the SD Worx Cycling Team for 2021.

In February it was announced that SD Worx would be the new main sponsor of the Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team; in 2021 the women's team will continue as the SD Worx Cycling Team.

Cecchini, 28, who signed a two-year contract, is looking to bolster the team in the spring classics. She is currently a member of Canyon-SRAM, a team that has been in the running for the last two years, but is now in the process of being renamed the Canyon-SRAM team.

"In these uncertain times, without racing, you don't expect to be offered a contract with a new team. It took me a while to consider the offer. After five years with the same team, it is not easy to leave the current team to which you are accustomed. On the other hand, I am convinced that this is the right step for me. The Boels-Dolmans team has been the best team in women's cycling for many years," Cecchini said in a team statement.

Fournier, also 28, has signed a one-year deal to lead the sprint and be a contender for stage wins. She is currently with the Continental team Cheval-Mer Cycling Team.

"I've never ridden for a team this strong before. I hope this move will allow me to take a tactical step forward in my career. This team always runs aggressive. I think I can show my strength in the escapes. My sprints will be a weapon and a tactical advantage for the team," Fournier said.

Earlier this year, the SD Walks Cycling team had already extended the contracts of Anna van der Breggen, Chantal Black, Amy Peters, Ronneke Uneken, Jolien Doll, and Christine Majerus, and offered Anna Shackley a new contract. offered new contracts to Anna Shackley.

Trek-Segafredo's Anna Prikta won her second consecutive individual time trial title at the Polish Championships on Thursday. She won by 49 seconds over Marta Jaskulska (CCC-Liv).

"Before this race I was a little stressed because it felt like my first race of the year. I was motivated for today because it was a big goal for me and I had already been training for a long time with the idea in my head that I wanted to win the national championships again and defend the jersey," said Prijita, who took the crown in Busko-Zdroj on a 22-km course.

"The race was hard. The course was flat, not technical, open and windy. It was all about power and pushing. I knew I needed to pay attention to my power and not push too much in the first direction where there was a tailwind. So I think I made a good tactical move."

"Having the support of the team during the lockdown period was a big help. It was mentally challenging for anyone to stay focused and motivated to train hard these past few months. But I gave 100 percent. I did everything I could and I'm really happy," Prihita said.

She will compete in the Polish Road Racing Championships on Sunday.

European cyclo-cross champion Yara Kastelijn will move teams as of September 1, leading Creafin-Fristads from Team 777; Kastelijn will be joined by World Cup winner Annemarie Worst and outstanding Italian Alice Maria Arzuffi, said she is limited by the team's tactics.

Kastelijn won the Superprestige and Koppenberg Cross in Gavelle last season. She will lead Manon Bakker and Anique van Alphen in a new formation.

"I am very happy with this opportunity," Castelline told Sporza. I still had a lot to learn last season, but after the European title and some great wins, I am now ready to be a leader."

[9 [I had a great time with Team 777. Still, I had the feeling that I was somewhat limited by the team's tactics. That is, of course, only possible with strong teammates like Annemarie Worst and Alice Maria Alzufi. But with strong teammates like Annemarie Worst and Alice Maria Altshuffi, that's to be expected.
