Nathan Van Hooydonk (open in new tab) has signed a two-year contract with a Dutch team and will join Jumbo Visma (open in new tab) next season. The Belgian rider is the latest to confirm his departure from the CCC team (open in new tab), which is looking for a replacement sponsor to ensure its survival in 2021.
"I am happy to have this opportunity from Team Jumbo-Visma," Van Hooydonk said in a statement released by his new team on Friday. 'It feels like a new chapter in my career. I am really looking forward to my first moments with this team."
The 24-year-old turned pro with BMC Racing in May 2017 and remained with Jim Ochowicz's team when it merged with CCC before the 2019 season. Van Hooydonk has been one of Greg Van Avermaert's supporters in recent cobblestone classics and will look to further his development on cobblestone with Wout Van Aert (opens in new tab) and Mike Tunissen.
"The Classic period is a very important period for me. I want to develop myself in the Classics," Van Hooydonk said. 'I want to continue my progress in the time trials. Team Jumbo-Visma has grown in every aspect over the last few years. I am happy to be part of such a team. For me, this is a team that will take me to the next level as a cyclist.
Merijn Zeeman, sport director of Jumbo-Visma, welcomed Van Hooydonck's arrival and said the Belgian would strengthen the team for the Classic.
"With Wout and Mike at the helm, we were looking for a strong rider who could strengthen our team for the Classic. Nathan, with his talent, is the right rider for the job. In addition, his time trial ability will come in handy in the team time trial and sprint trains. We look forward to seeing him in action next season."
