AG2R La Mondiale (open in new tab) announced that American rider Larry Walbus (open in new tab) has tested positive for COVID-19 in the latest internal test conducted by the French team.
Walbas has not raced since Saturday's Il Lombardia and is symptom free, the team reported. He had previously competed in Strade Bianche, Milan-Torino, and Milan-San Remo.
The 30-year-old is the second COVID-19 positive for AG2R; Sylvain Dillier (open in new tab) tested positive just before the race, forcing him to miss Strade Bianche.
"As part of the systematic monitoring of riders and staff, Larry Walbus, who had no symptoms, tested positive for COVID-19," the team said in a statement.
The positive result forced the team to isolate the other riders and take precautions that will affect the lineup for this weekend's French National Championships. However, there are no affected riders on AG2R La Mondiale's Tour de France longlist. 9]
"The AG2R La Mondiale team has decided to take general precautions with regard to certain riders and staff."
The team also announced that it will be taking a number of precautionary measures to ensure that the team's riders are not affected.
The measures mean that members of the team Il Lombardia will withdraw from the race, with Geoffrey Bouchard, Axel Domon and Ben Gastauer withdrawing from Friday's Tour du Limousin and Clément Champoussin, along with Domonie and Bouchard withdraw from Sunday's French national championship road race.
Warbus is the fourth rider to test positive for COVID-19 since racing resumed in late July. Similar to Dillier's positive test, Astana's Ugo Uhl (open in new tab) tested positive after the Tour de Pollogne race, and Israeli Startup Nation's Omer Goldstein (open in new tab) tested positive before the Vuelta a Burgos.
Since these riders will not be competing in the Tour de France, Warbasse's positive test is not included in the new "two strikes" (open in new tab) rule of the Tour de France.
