There is no room for Mark Cavendish (open in new tab) on the Bahrain McLaren (open in new tab) team in the Tour de France, and the team is fully supporting Mikel Landa (open in new tab) in his quest for a top overall finish.
Landa is supported by a number of climbers, but there is also room for versatile sprinter Sonny Colbrelli. Dylan Teuns (opens in new tab), winner of stage 6 La Planche des Belles Filles last July, is also out of the lineup, and WielerFlits reports that the Belgian had a back problem at the Criterium du Dauphiné
Team manager.
Team manager Rod Ellingworth has revealed that the team will be built around Landa, who finished fourth in the 2017 Tour de France.
"The Tour de France is the biggest moment of the year in cycling and I am proud of the great job the entire team has done to get us ready for the Tour.
"This year's parcours suits Mikel very well and his form is strong. The group we have chosen to support him is the group of riders best suited to this course and ready for the Tour. The last few months have been difficult for all riders to get in race condition, but we are all very proud of the strong lineup we have chosen."
Landa will be supported by a strong group of climbers, including Damiano Caruso and 2020 newcomer Wout Poels. New Spanish time trial champion Pero Bilbao was also selected.
"Both the Dauphiné and the Vuelta a Burgos were tough races and rehearsals for the Tour de France," Landa said.
"I will start this Tour in very good shape and I am very motivated by my feeling and the strength and quality of my teammates who support me on the road. Together as a team we can accomplish a lot."
