Gourpama-FDJ's Arnaud Demar won the French championship road race on Sunday and has been appointed to the French squad to lead the European championship road race in Plouay, France, on Wednesday. As a result, fellow sprinter Nasser Bouhanni (Arkea-Samsic) has left the team.
According to "L'Equipe," French national team selection committee member Thomas Voeckler went to see Bukhani in person and gave him the bad news.
"Of course, he was not very happy. But my job is not to make people happy, but to pick the best possible French team."

Demare won his third French road race title in a three-man sprint with Brian Coquard of B&B Hotels-Vital Concepts and Julien Alaphilippe of Deceuninck-Quick Step. Bouhanni finished in 21st place, 16 seconds behind Demare.
According to L'Equipe, Demaret was supported by Benoit Cosnefrois, Lilian Carméjane, Cyril Gautier, Olivier Le Gac, Anthony Roux, and Thomas Buda, while Voeckler was supported by Maxime Bouet, Mathieu Bourgodeau, Nance Peters and Clément Venturini.
