Asgreen and Bystron Win Men's Road Race Titles in Denmark and Norway

Deceuninck-QuickStep's Kasper Asgreen and UAE Team Emirates' Sven-Erik Bystron won the men's road race titles at the Danish and Norwegian national championships, respectively, on Sunday.

Asgreen, the Danish time trial champion, won the road race in Middelfart on Sunday afternoon by nine seconds over Andreas Krohn of Rewal Securitas, although the 2020 title fight was postponed. [The race was very hard. The race was very hard. We had a lot of rain, the course was tricky, and to top it off, some teams started to put pressure on the peloton early, with 80km to go.

"Our team stayed calm and attacked with 50km to go. Then I got away with Cron and accelerated in the last kilometer to open up a gap in the technical part of the city."

"I'm really happy with this win. A big thanks to my teammates. We rode perfectly and I couldn't have done it without them. I can't wait to wear this beautiful jersey."

In Norway, Bistron took the title in Loise ahead of Uno X's Jonas Iversby Hvideberg and Lotto Sørdal's Carl Fredrik Hagen, and thanked UAE teammate (and 2007 and 2011 national champion) Alexander ... thanked Christophe for his support.

"It was a special win for me," the 28-year-old Bystrom said on the team's website. 'I've finished second [in 2017], and that's a big difference from winning.'

"I'm really happy to be at the top of the podium again. I also want to thank Alex Christophe for his run. We shared the workload and were able to bring home another national champion jersey for the team."

2019 Norwegian road race champion Amund Grondahl-Jansen will not attempt to defend his title and continues to train in the French Alps with his Jumbo Visma teammate ahead of next weekend's Tour de France.
