The Bora-Hansgrohe team has unveiled a new racing kit for the Tour de France, changing the team colors and adding the Austrian tourist logo "Bike-Ötztal" to the jersey.
Bora-Hansgrohe's usual colors are black, peppermint green, and white, but the new design reverses the colors, with white being the prominent color. The shorts remain black with green trim, and the red Bike-Etztal logo is prominently displayed on the arms of the jersey. The racewear was made by Italian brand Sportful.
"From a tourism perspective, the Tour is of course a platform for professional cycling. We hope that our success and our riding style will make spectators from all over the world aware of the beautiful Ötztal valley," said team manager Ralf Denk.
"The white jerseys were already a great success last year and very popular with our fans. Now we hope to be able to offer an attractive alternative to the black kit again this year."
Bora-Hansgrohe announced on Monday that Max Schachmann, Emmanuel Buchmann, and Gregor Mühlberger will compete in the Tour de France despite injuries sustained in recent races.
Peter Sagan is also in the eight-rider lineup, with the three-time former world champion looking for his eighth green points jersey and a stage victory.
Buchmann finished fourth overall in 2019, while Schachmann won Paris-Nice, but the team confirmed that due to their injuries, the race would take place "under different conditions than originally planned."
"All three riders have done an excellent job with the intensive rehabilitation that we have carried out over the last few days. After all, this is what makes a world-class athlete," said Jan-Niklas Droste, a member of Bora-Hansgrohe's medical team.
Schachmann broke his collarbone in the last few kilometers of Il Lombardia when a driver interrupted him on the course. He managed to rejoin the race and finished seventh, but was diagnosed with a broken collarbone and his season was in jeopardy.
Buchmann and Mühlberger crashed just 29 km into the descent of the Col de Plan Bois on stage 4 of the Criterium du Dauphiné.
"This was a bitter setback. When I couldn't get up on my own after the fall, I thought the Tour was over. But luckily there were no broken bones," said the 27-year-old Buchmann.
"It's very disappointing to have a crash like that because I was in good shape. In the Dauphiné, I was the strongest on the mountain after [Primoz] Roglic, along with [Thibault] Pinot.
"Now I have some question marks hanging over my head. In the second stage, we are already heading up the mountain. We'll just have to see how far we can climb. Right now all I can do is tackle the Tour one day at a time."
Bora-Hansgrohe's 2020 Tour de France roster:
Emmanuel Buchmann (Ger), Peter Sagan (Sweden), Daniel Oss (Italy), Leonard Chemna (Ger), Felix Großschartner ( (Germany), Lukas Pestlberger (Germany), Gregor Mühlberger (Germany), Max Schachmann (Ger).
