Contador Foundation Receives New Main Sponsor and Pro Team Status

Kometa, a development team supported by the Alberto Contador Foundation, has been operating at the UCI Continental level since 2018, but will step up to a UCI professional team next season with the addition of Italian broadband internet company EOLO. [According to a press release, the three-year deal with EOLO will make the Spanish team an Italian-registered team starting in 2021, and the team will be based at the EOLO campus in Busto Arsizio in Lombardy, Northern Italy.

Kometa-Xstra general manager Fran Contador (brother of two-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador) thanked the team sponsors for their support and added that he and the team look forward to the future at the professional team level.

"Out of difficult times came great opportunities," he said of the coronavirus crisis. We've always made it clear that our goal was to jump up a category," he said, "and we've done that. Now we have a great challenge ahead of us, along with great responsibility, but also confidence that our work is starting to bear fruit from the base."

Ivan Basso, a former professional and two-time Giro d'Italia winner, is Kometa-Xstra's sports manager and a native of Lombardy. We share the same values of humility, hard work, sacrifice, and self-sacrifice, and our CEO, Luca Spada, understands them perfectly.

Spada said that EOLO is "pleased to support the projects of Ivan Basso and the Alberto Contador Foundation" and added: "At EOLO, we strongly believe in talent and in achieving results through dedication, hard work, sacrifice and teamwork."

The new sponsor is already involved in professional cycling this season as a partner in events run by RCS Sport in Italy, including Milan - San Remo, Tirreno-Adriatico, and Strade Bianche.
