Julien Alaphilippe (Dečuninck-Quick Step): stage win and yellow jersey
"It was my dream to wear the yellow jersey. After this stage, I was speechless.
"I want to thank everyone on the team. It was a real responsibility today and I gave it everything I had at the finish. The team did everything we planned to do this morning and I am very proud of them.
"I gave it my all, worked with the other guys, and even though the wind was blowing on the run-in, I held on and finished. It is only the second stage. I'll do my best (to keep the yellow jersey)." (Frobaix)
Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) - 3rd in the stage
"I got to Julien Alaphilippe and (Marc) Hirschi and started the descent. There was a headwind in the final and it wasn't super easy. In the end I couldn't win the sprint and they were faster than me.
"Maybe one more climb or something would have been nice, but like I said before, in a sprint with these two guys, in a finish like this, I was always going to be in second or third. Overall, it was a good day." (Mitchelton Scott)
Greg Van Avermaat (CCC Team) - 4th in stage
"It was super hard, but in a good way compared to yesterday. I had my mind set on getting the yellow and winning the stage, so I gave it my all like it was a one-day race. Unfortunately, three of us stayed in front.
"You never know what can happen in a race. Of course I am a little disappointed after all these climbs and riders. It would be nice to be closer to victory, but I can't change that.
"Stage 5 is a good stage for me because of the uphill sprint. My legs are reacting well. Hopefully it won't be my last chance to win a stage in this Tour." (CCC Team)
Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) - 17th in the stage
"Honestly, I am happy to be back in the race. I enjoyed the stage and it was a very Tour-like stage.
"Kwiatkowski and Richard Karapas did a great job in the last kilometer. I reached the finish and saved my legs as long as I could, that's the Tour. That's the Tour, one day at a time, to save energy for the last part of the Tour." (Ineos Grenadiers) [27].
