Wilco Kelderman signs with Bora Hansløge

Wilco Kelderman has signed a two-year contract with Bora Hansløge. The Dutchman joins the team after spending the past four years at Sunweb.

The 29-year-old was told early in the season that his current team would not offer him a new contract and was rumored to want to return to Jumbo Visma, but Bora-Hanslooge has decided to move on and sees Kelderman as an integral part of their future Grand Tour plans.

He finished fourth at the Vuelta a España in 2017 and seventh at the Giro d'Italia in 2014, but injuries have set him back in recent years.

"I am really looking forward to this new challenge," Kelderman said in a press release issued by his future team.

"After the first few meetings with the coaches and management team, it became clear that this was exactly the right step for me. I was immediately convinced that a partnership with Beulah Hansgrohe would provide me with new incentives at this stage of my career. The entire group, including the riders, the performance team, and the management team, provide the perfect environment for me to perform at my best.

Kelderman moved from Rabobank's Continental team to the WorldTour program in 2010; he moved to Sunweb at the beginning of 2017 and, although he failed to finish the Giro d'Italia that year, he returned to his best stage race result at the Vuelta a España He returned to finish in his best stage race result at the Vuelta a España.

Subsequent Grand Tour results were inconsistent, and he had two top-10 finishes at the Vuelta, but was hampered by injuries at several key points. In 2019, Kelderman broke his left collarbone and neck vertebrae in a crash at the Tour of Catalunya, and the Giro d'Italia and missed the Giro d'Italia.

Beulah Hansgrohe has already announced the signing of Nils Pollitt from Isreal Startup Nation, but Kelderman will add steel and Add experience.

"Wilco is a rider with great potential. Our challenge in the coming years will be to consistently exploit this potential on the road. He is at the ideal age for that and will definitely be a real asset," said team manager Ralf Denk.
