EF Pro Cycling's Rigoberto Urán dropped from third to sixth overall on stage 17 of the Tour de France.
"It was a really tough stage today, the last climb was tricky, but as always I did my best until the finish. I lost quite a bit of time but as always I will keep fighting until the end."
The 33-year-old Uran finished ninth, 1:59 behind stage winner Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana). Uran was able to catch up to the main GC contenders thanks to an assist from teammate Hugh Carthy, but the British climber slowed down with 13km to go, allowing Uran to catch race leader Primoz Roglic and his Jumbo Visma teammate, second place Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), Adam Yates (Mitchelton Scott), Trek-Segafredo's Richie Porte, and eventual winner Lopez.
"Rigo looked in good shape on the last climb. 'It was hard and really steep. I'm a little disappointed, but overall I couldn't do anything. I did my best.
Uran dropped three places to sixth overall, 3:24 behind Logric's race lead, but 10 seconds behind Yates in fifth and three seconds behind Bahrain McLaren's Mikel Landa in seventh.
"Tomorrow will be another hard stage," Uran said of Thursday's 18th stage from Meribel to La Roche-sur-Follon. "It will be another hard stage tomorrow." It could be another stage where everything changes.
