Bora-Hansgrohe's Peter Sagan took to social media Friday evening to congratulate Dečuninck-Quick Step's Sam Bennett for winning the green jersey at this year's Tour de France.
Sagan, who has won the green jersey seven times, took to Instagram to congratulate him, but said he will still do everything in his power to win the final stage of the Tour on Sunday on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.
Bennett, who outscored Sagan by three points on Friday's 19th stage, now leads the Slovakian by 55 points (319 vs. 264), while Trentin is another 14 points back in third place.
"I did my best and will do everything I can to win in Paris," Sagan wrote on Instagram.
"Congrats to Sam Bennett for taking the green jersey in this Tour de France.
Saturday's 20th stage (individual time trial) will award 20 points to the winner, 17 points to second place, 15 points to third place, and one point to 15th place.
On Sunday's 122-km flat final stage from Mantes-la-Jolie to the Champs-Elysées in Paris, 50 points will be awarded to the stage winner, 30 points to second place, and 20 points to third place.
The third of eight laps of the Champs-Elysées and the only intermediate sprint of stage 21 will have the same point structure as Saturday's time trial. This means that a maximum of 70 points will be awarded on Sunday, and the point difference between the top three finishers in this year's green jersey is currently 69 points.
