Without the breakaway, van der Breggen said, the final race of the Giro Lorca would have been much tougher.
"There would probably have been attacks coming all the time, and it would have been a really difficult day. She said, "I think it was a good day for us." We thought the break was very good for us because (our highest GC finish) was nine minutes.
Reflecting on the nine days of tough and varied racing, van der Breggen added: "It was a great day.
There should be a celebration in the Boels-Dolman camp tonight, and the 30-year-old said, "I don't really like champagne, but I'm going to have some pizza and I think I'll have some gelato when we get back to the bus. The night after the Giro is always a good one. We're going to Rome and we're going to celebrate at the hotel together."
