Women's Paris-Roubaix season opener features 17 pavé sections

ASO has announced the teams and route for the first women's Paris-Roubaix, which will be held on October 25, the same day as the men's race.

The women's race will start at 9:10 a.m. in Denain, south of Roubaix, ahead of the men's, and will cover 116 km before finishing at the famous Roubaix Velodrome, where 17 cobbled sections fill the route and the pavé begins after only 20 km.

The race includes two sections of the greatest difficulty, Mont-en-Pevere and Carrefour de l'Arbre, with cobblestones covering 29.5 km.

The race will feature 24 teams, with eight UCI World Teams (Ale-BTC-Ljubljana, Canyon Slam, CCC-Liv, FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope, Mitchelton Scott, Movistar, Team Sunweb, Trek Segafredo) receive automatic invitations.

Several big-name riders have already expressed interest in competing, so it is sure to be a big battle. World champion Annemiek van Fluten (Mitchelton-Scott) told Cycling News that she was surprised to see the route added to the Women's World Tour calendar, while Lizzie Deignan (Trek-Segafredo) said, "This is an amazing surprise.

In addition to eight teams from cycling's top divisions, 16 teams will participate, including Boels Dolmans, Lotto Soudal, Park Hotel Valkenburg, and Rally Cycling. See below for the list of invited riders.
