Bardet to resume racing at Brabante Pile after concussion at Tour de France

AG2R La Mondiale's Romain Bardet will compete in the Belgian one-day race Brabantse Pijl on Wednesday.

According to L'Equipe, Bardet hopes to race until the Tour of Flanders on October 18, after which he will bring the curtain down on his nine seasons with AG2R, led by Vincent Lavenu.

"I am just happy to be back in competition and with the team," Bardet said on the AG2R website. 'I couldn't think of a better way to end this season and my beautiful story with AG2R La Mondiale than with a crash like that.'

Bardet crashed heavily in mid-September with about 90 kilometers to go in stage 13 of the Tour from Chatel Guyon to Pas de Peyrolle, and appeared to lose his footing until he rejoined the race and finished the stage.

However, he was unable to race the following day in Clermont-Ferrand, where an MRI scan revealed a small hemorrhage due to concussion.

"The first few days after the Tour abandonment were physically painful, but I was treated very well by the team medical service and the AS Montferrand medical service, which specializes in treating concussions.

Bardet was told he could resume training at the end of September and will now race in Brabantspaille, make his first career appearance in the Paris-Tours on Sunday, and race in Flanders the following weekend.

"I'm not used to going into a race with little training and no guarantees," he told L'Equipe about Wednesday's Brabantspaille. But I'm not going to run for myself, I'm going to be there to help the team."

"We have a competitive group of classics and I hope to be able to play a role," Bardet said, referring to the upcoming one-day race.

"I want to repay my teammates, especially Oliver Naessen, and I hope to be back to my best soon."
