CCC-Liv withdraws from Brabants Pile due to mishandling of COVID-19 positive test

The women's CCC-Liv team did not start the Brabantse Pijl Dames race on Wednesday morning due to a positive test for COVID-19 after the team had already assembled for the race.

Marianne Vos, Valerie Demay, Marta Jaskulska, Jeanne Kolevar, Evi Kuipers, and Pauliena Royackers traveled to Belgium to participate in the Brabant Arrow.

All Team Babble riders and staff were tested for COVID-19 prior to the race and tested negative.

It is unclear if the team will have to miss Sunday's Ghent-Wevelgem and other races and self-isolate because of possible close contact with COVID-19 infected individuals.

"All riders and staff of Team Babble underwent double testing prior to Brabantse Pijl. The results of both tests were all negative. We have shared this information with the UCI in accordance with UCI regulations," CCC-Liv team doctor Tessa Buckheis said in a statement. [However, on Tuesday and Wednesday night, while the athletes and staff were in the safety of the team bubble, the laboratory alerted us that one of the test results was positive.

"We took responsibility on Wednesday morning and decided to keep the entire team out of the race.
