The future of the NTT Pro Cycling World Tour team is still up in the air, as director Bjarne Riis told Sporza at the Giro d'Italia.
When asked if the team has a future, Riis replied, "I honestly don't know. I hope the team has a future.
Riis and his longtime business partner Lars Thayer Christensen had signed a "letter of intent" to become part owners of the team, but according to the Danish press, as of early September Doug Ryder was still the full owner of the team.
It is unclear which parties are involved in the search for a sponsor, but Riis said, "We are working on it, but it is difficult. I have to admit that. I can't say any more than that."
The team is still looking for a sponsor.
The team tried to extend its contract with NTT, which had acquired Dimension Data in 2010 but had sponsored the team under the latter's name since 2016. During the Tour de France, Rice expressed confidence that the team would be able to find a sponsor, but after the Tour, the rider gave the team the freedom to look for a contractual partner.
Of the teams, only Domenico Pozzovivo, Victor Campenaerts, and neo-professionals Matteo Sobrero, Dylan Sunderland, and Samuele Battistella have contracts remaining for 2021.
So far, none of them have announced that they will sign with another team, but Victor Campenaerts doubts that the team will be able to find another sponsor, and with the dissolution of the CCC team, he is concerned that without a good result at the Giro d'Italia, other He expresses concern that it will be difficult to find another team without a good result at the Giro d'Italia, since the CCC team was dissolved.
Reese stated that the team has been searching all year to find other sponsors.
"We have been in contact with possible sponsors throughout the year. But we are still fighting and working for it."
