Jan Bakelanz was infected with COVID-19 on Friday, and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The Belgian tested negative for the coronavirus that caused the global pandemic that has killed more than a million people before the Brabants Pile race on Tuesday. He was asymptomatic until Friday, when he developed "mild symptoms" after training and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.
"Jan is in good health and his symptoms remain mild," said Joost de Mecenia, the team's representative physician. "In accordance with team and UCI medical protocols, Jan will be quarantined at home for at least seven days, and in 2020 he will no longer race."
Bakelants was scheduled to compete in Ghent-Wevelgem on Sunday, but Ludwig de Winter will fill in for him.
With Paris-Roubaix cancelled on October 25 and Circus-Wanty not competing in the Vuelta a EspaƱa, there are no races left for Baquelinz to compete in after a 14-day quarantine.
The team announced that no other team members have had direct contact with Baquelinz since his return from Brabants Pile, and all pre-race tests were negative, so the rest of the team will not be quarantined. All team members will be tested again before competing in Ghent-Wevelgem.
Following Mitchelton-Scott's Simon Yates, who contracted COVID-19 at the Giro d'Italia, Bakelants is the second rider to test positive for COVID-19 in recent days.
