Ineos Grenadiers has once again changed its plans for the Vuelta a España, with Dylan Van Barre and Brandon Rivera now on the eight-man roster.
Sebastian Henao's name was not on the provisional roster submitted to race organizers last week. Teams are allowed to change their roster members until just before the event.
In cycling news last week, Chris Froome, Richard Kalapas, Andrei Amador, Michael Goras, Ivan Sosa, and Cameron Wolfe were named to the rosters submitted to race organizers, while Owain Doule, Christian Nies, and Carlos Rodriguez are on standby. Froom, Calapaz, Amador, Goras, Sosa, and Wolff will remain with the team, while Van Baar and Rivera are new additions.
According to Cycling News, the team was impressed with van Baar's recent form and decided to add the Dutchman to its lineup on Monday.
As Cycling News first reported, there is no place for Egan Bernal, and the 2019 Tour de France winner will instead focus on the back injury that ruined his Tour de France defense. He will not race again this season. According to sources, Henao was replaced due to a knee injury.
Kalapas will lead the team along with Froome after a recent, albeit small, training crash. This will be the British rider's last race before leaving for the Israeli startup nation next season, and although the 35-year-old has yet to find his best form after a horrific crash at last year's Criterium du Dauphiné, he is coming off victories in 2011 and 2017 as a two-time He enters the race as the winner. Caparaz, winner of the 2019 Giro d'Italia, was removed from the Giro roster and sent to the Tour to back up Bernal. The former Movistar rider rode valiantly and finished second in two stages, but was eliminated in the battle for the mountains prize with two days remaining.
The 37-year-old Wolff had only joined the team in January after a six-year break from racing at the World Tour level. He was involved in the Ardennes Classics and his last Grand Tour was the 2013 Vuelta, but he appears ready to start, having been named to both rosters submitted to race organizers.
Sosa made his Grand Tour debut last year and was initially part of the Giro d'Italia plans, but like Calapaz, he will head to Spain for the last Grand Tour of the season.
