Alberto Bettiol made his move at the top of the Aude Quaremont and he led the race solo for the last 17km of the 2019 Tour de Flanders. Some riders tried to chase him, but nothing was accomplished as Bettiol held off Paterberg and the following 14km before the finish line. Bettiol's victory surprised many.
"For me, the 10 km was hard. I kept thinking, 'What am I doing, I'm winning the Ronde van Vlaanderen,'" Bettiol said. I still can't believe it. I don't know where I am or what I'm talking about."
Not only did Bettiol win Ronde van Vlaanderen convincingly, but it was the first victory of his career. For Bettiol, it was a special moment that he will never forget. To commemorate this momentous achievement, Prologo unveiled a limited edition Scratch M5 saddle featuring the Lion of Flanders.
The Scratch M5 series includes saddles in different finishes, rails in Tirox alloy and Nack carbon, and solid and PAS (cut-out) options. The saddles are 250 mm long and feature a round shape designed by Prologo for both male and female riders in a variety of cycling disciplines.
Only 30 units of this limited edition model will be produced and are based on the top-of-the-line Scratch saddle for maximum performance. Featuring a carbon base supported by a nac carbon 9mm oval rail, the Scratch M5 weighs 164g (claimed 155g) and combines the ergonomics of Scratch.
All saddles in the Scratch series feature the same T-shape and MSS (multi-sector system) pads that impressed us in our recent Prologo Scratch M5 PAS review. The Scratch saddles are shaped to aid in the pedaling action, providing a comfortable pedaling platform and keeping the shoulders firmly in place. The carbon base provides excellent vibration absorption, which is appreciated by riders who ride cobblestone classics like the Tour de Flanders.
While the model we reviewed previously used the Prologo PAS cutouts, this saddle uses an active base system. The saddle itself is notched out, but padding covers the hole, dispersing pressure and relieving the prostate/genital area while preventing uncomfortable splashing from the saddle.
The saddle comes with a limited edition Lion Pro Logo One-Touch bar tape that matches the saddle. The tape is made of Polygrip and features a light texture that gives riders a secure grip in all weather conditions.
With the 2020 Tour of Flanders just around the corner, Prologo has created 30 replica limited edition saddles with the same bar tape that Bettyall used on his winning bike, as a tribute and thank you to Bettyall's victory. Each saddle will be serially numbered and will come with a certificate signed by Prologo's general manager.
Of the 30 saddles, 10 will be sold to the public for 300 euros. The remaining saddles will either be displayed, donated to charity, or given to Bettiol himself.
