Tour of Flanders Cavendish, Colbrelli, and Theuns line up for Bahrain McLaren

Mark Cavendish will continue his season, and career, alongside teammates Sonny Colbrelli and Dylan Tuns, who will lead Bahrain McLaren in this weekend's Tour of Flanders.

Cavendish, who said in a post-race interview in Ghent-Wevelgem last weekend that he may have run his last race at age 35, heads into Wednesday's Scheldeprij determined to continue racing next season.

The 2011 road race world champion, who has struggled with form in recent years after contracting the Epstein-Barr virus in 2017, told reporters ahead of Wednesday's Scheldeprij: "I love the sport. I love this sport. I have dedicated my life to this sport and I want to keep riding my bike."

The entire Tour de Flanders team (Chun Kaifeng, Marco Haller, Luka Pibernik, and Fred Wright) rode the last 80 km of this year's 243-km race during a reconnaissance on Friday.

Colbrelli's best finish was 10th in Flanders in 2017, but he feels the slightly shorter, rescheduled race suits him better this year.

"It went very smoothly," the 30-year-old Italian said of the recon ride. I feel good on the climbs."

"This race suits me and I have never made a secret of the fact that my dream is to win the Tour of Flanders sooner or later. I've had some crashes in recent races, but I'm in good shape and I'm motivated. It is important to keep a good position," Colbrelli said.

Sport Director Tristan Hoffman (5th in Flanders 2000, 8th in Flanders 1999) added: "It's one of the biggest races in the world. It's one of the biggest races in the world and we are looking forward to it."

"Our lineup is a mix of experience and youth. We have two top riders, Dylan Teuns and Sonny Colbrelli, who will be supported by their teammates and will try to do well in the finale. All the riders are in good condition and feeling good," said the Dutch rider.
