Cofidis climber Jesús Herrada will not compete in the Vuelta a España, which starts Tuesday in Irún, Basque Country.

The French WorldTour team posted on social media that Herrada tested positive for coronavirus after a PCR test on Wednesday.The 30-year-old Herrada is apparently feeling better and tested negative on Friday, but at the Vuelta Nathanael Berhane and will be replaced by.

In a separate statement, Elada wrote that after testing positive for coronavirus on Wednesday and negative for COVID-19 on Friday, a 10-day isolation was nevertheless recommended.

According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Elada wrote, "We live in uncertain times, as this short period of positive and negative results shows. It's a real shame that I won't be able to participate in the Vuelta after all the special preparation I've done in the past weeks at high altitude."

Elida, who won a stage at last year's Vuelta, was expected to again aim for a stage win and help team leader Guillaume Martin to overall victory, as he did in this year's Tour de France.

Eritrean rider Berhane will start his third career Vuelta and the 29-year-old's first Grand Tour of the season.
