Alexis Vuillemoz is moving from French WorldTour team AG2R La Mondiale to French professional team Total Direct Energie.
Vuillermoz has nine Grand Tours under his belt, including seven at the Tour de France, where he supported Romain Bardet and Pierre Latour this year. He also won the eighth stage of the 2015 Tour in Mules de Bretagne ahead of Thursday's Vuelta a EspaƱa stage 3 winner Dan Martin and Alejandro Valverde, and his most recent victory was the 2019 Drome Classic.
"I am very happy to join Total Direct Energie," the 32-year-old Frenchman said in a team press release on Wednesday. 'I've been chasing this team since my days at Bouygues Telecom, hoping to join one day.'
"I spoke with (team manager) Jean-Rene Bernadeau at length on the phone and we discussed what I wanted. I decided to sign up with this team, both in terms of the sport and in terms of the human values of the team."
Vuillermoz had signed a one-year contract with AG2R for next season, but it appears that he has terminated it in order to sign a two-year deal with Bernod's Total Direct Energie.
Some familiar faces are among Vuillermoz's teammates for next season: current AG2R riders Pierre Latour and Alexandre Genies are already in the pen with Bernode's team, and the team has also recruited Circus Wantigover's current rider Fabien Dubay to further strengthen the team's hill-climbing squad.
Vuillermoz said he is particularly looking forward to riding under Latour, but that some races may present opportunities for him.
"I'm very happy to be able to follow Pierre here and help him continue to progress," Vuillermoz said of the best young rider of the 2018 Tour de France. 'He's a very talented rider, he gets along very well with me, and not only is he an excellent ruler, but he's also a top class climber.'
