Tao Geoghegan Hart and Ineos Grenadiers' overall victory at the 2020 Giro d'Italia was also part of Rohan Dennis' career.

Dennis, an Australian, played a pivotal role in the team's overall success and was pleased to see his teammate Geohegan Hart take the overall win in the Milan finale, the stage 21 time trial.

"It was a big personal goal of mine to be part of a Grand Tour winning team," Dennis said in a post-race interview after the time trial.

Dennis began his WorldTour career with Garmin-Sharp in 2013, but raced most of his career with the former BMC Racing team from 2014 to 2018. He moved to Bahrain-Merida last year, then was released and moved to Ineos Grenadiers for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

He has won stage victories and the leader's jersey in all three Grand Tours, but said he abandoned his personal Grand Tour ambitions when he signed with Ineos Grenadiers and instead moved into a domestic role for the three-week race.

Ineos Grenadiers was supposed to support race leader Geraint Thomas in the Giro d'Italia. However, an unfortunate crash at a neutral start on stage 3 forced Thomas to abandon the race with a broken hip.

"To be honest, I'm going to be straightforward, when Geraint [Thomas] crashed, I thought, 'Okay, in another Grand Tour. He helped me achieve one of my goals in my career.

Ineos Grenadiers had a remarkable Giro d'Italia, taking seven stage wins, the overall win, and the highest team finish.

Filippo Ganna won the Palermo stage 1, the Valdobbiadene stage 14, the Milan stage 21 time trial, and the Camigliatello Silano stage 5 mountain stage, while Honatan Narvaez won the Cesenatico stage 12.

Geoghegan Hart took a double stage win on stage 15 Piancavallo and stage 20 Sestriere to take the overall win on the final day. Dennis played a key role in assisting Geoghegan Hart on the important mountain stages, and on stage 18 of the year he won the Cima Coppi award, given to the first rider to cross the Stelvio, the highest point in the race.

"It's hard to be told that you're not a team player; it's hard to be told that you're not a team player.

Ineos also won the overall team championship ahead of Detunink Quickstep and Team Sunweb.

Ben Swift said that the team was not initially aiming for the overall win with Geoghegan Hart or the overall team win, but that he was proud of the team's ability to change their ambitions and focus once they lost Thomas on stage 3.

"It was so incredible and anyone who was near the bus when they were counting down (during the final time trial) would know what it meant for us. I never thought I'd be in this position," Ben Swift said in an interview after the race in Milan.

"Hats off to Tao. The team's run was fantastic. We went for the stage win, and we won seven of them, and we finished second, third, fourth, and fifth in most of the stages, all of them, and we also won the team GC.
