New Bianchi Specialissima with Disc Brakes and Oltre Treatment

Bianchi has unveiled its latest Specialissima model, which has undergone a major redesign.

Perhaps the most noticeable feature of the new 2021 lineup is Bianchi's Specialissima's move to a disc brake-only configuration.

Bianchi's composite engineers and industrial designers have also reshaped the bikes' tube profiles to allow more cable routing to fit inside the frame for better aerodynamics and lateral rigidity.

The most notable engineering statistic and marketing figure for this redesigned Specialissima is its frame weight. This is remarkably light for a bike that maintains the Specialissima's level of lateral stiffness and uses reinforced disc brake mounts in the rear triangle.

The lightweight Specialissima has always been Bianchi's climbing bike of choice, but improvements to the frame construction have enhanced the bike's responsiveness when sprinting and carving up tight cadences on flat training and race stages.

Much of the technical evolution of the new Specialissima is due to Bianchi's Oltre Aero road bike series. To ensure that the Specialissima maintains its renowned ride comfort, the new tube construction incorporates a counter-bail vibration damping mechanism that reduces fatigue during long weekend workouts.

With the Specialissima's structural changes, Bianchi has increased tire clearance to a maximum width of 28 mm. This allows for a wider variety of rubber choices for owners who understand the benefits of wearing wider tires at lower pressures.

Bianchi markets the new Specialissima in three core colors. In addition to Bianchi's signature color, Celeste, there is a new color, Greenish Blue, and Lightweight Black, which reduces the frame weight by an additional 80 grams.

For Specialissima customers who want to express their individuality even further, five signature colors are also available, painted by Bianchi's expert finishers.

Bianchi has not yet confirmed pricing for the new series, but has released specifications and manufacturing details. Customers will have a complete choice of premium road bike group sets, from Super Record EPS to Dura-Ace Di2, SRAM Red eTap AXS, and Ultegra Di2. Bianchi also offers a mechanical Ultegra option for those who prefer to do their own maintenance and are budget conscious.
