Trek Segafredo has announced two-year contract extensions for Toms Scusiņš, Matteo Moschetti, Gianluca Brambilla, and Jacopo Mosca. Meanwhile, veteran Coen de Corto will begin his fifth season with the team in 2021 after receiving a one-year contract extension.
De Cort is currently captain of Trek-Segafredo's young team in the Vuelta a España, and the news means that the team's young riders will benefit from the 38-year-old Dutchman's experience for at least one more season.
Like De Corto, sprinter Matteo Moschetti was also competing in the Vuelta, but the 24-year-old Italian's year came to an early end when he finished outside the time limit on stage 7 at Villanueva de Valdegovia.
Toms Skujdhos joined the team in 2018, and the 2019 Latvian road race champion said he is very comfortable with the American team and happily penned a two-year contract extension.
"Since joining Trek-Segafredo, I'm really happy with how the team has supported me, trusted me, and helped me grow as an athlete. I'm especially happy to be able to sign on for two more years in this odd season and stay with this team that I've been a part of for three years." [I'm especially happy that the company Trek is supporting the team. Not only is the team involved, but the company is involved as well. I'm going to miss returning to Trek's headquarters in Wisconsin this year to play hockey with Trek employees," Skujjņš said.
As for his aspirations for the next two seasons, the 29-year-old added. One thing I really want to do is to finally compete in the Giro d'Italia. I want to continue in the same direction I've been going. Sometimes I want to captain the road, sometimes I want to get a result in the Ardennes or in a stage race. Overall, I want to be as useful to the team as possible, whatever the race."
Climber Gianluca Brambilla won stages at the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España in 2016 with Etixx-Quick Step, but was forced to retire after a crash early in the race, before the final week of this year's Giro He ended his 2020 season.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Jacopo Mosca, who joined Trek-Segafredo midway through the 2019 season, finished the Giro in 31st place overall.
Trek-Segafredo general manager Luca Guercilena said, "In a season that is coming to an end, we thought it was important to send a signal of confidence and motivation to the entire group."
"Every year we have been able to strengthen our sporting projects and this year in particular has given important signs of improvement and results. We have chosen to give continuity to a balanced mix of youngsters and experience as a means of achieving further leaps in quality."
