Jumbo-Visma's Wout Van Aert finished the road season with a second place at the Tour of Flanders in October, but the 26-year-old will not be out of training and racing for long. The three-time world cyclo-cross champion plans to turn his attention to off-road racing in the future and is already out on his first 'cross training session near his home in Belgium this week.
After a week of rest to relax and unwind, Van Aert said he is ready to get back on the road.
The organizers of the X²O Badkamer Trofee (formerly the DVV Trofee) announced last week that they will compete in four races in Kortrijk (November 28), Herentals (December 23), Baar (January 1) and Hamme (January 23).
"I've been a little busy, but I've made a [training] schedule," Van Aert told "Het Laatste Nieuws" this week.
"After the road season, I was tired, mostly just in my head. But a few days of doing nothing was enough to "reset" myself and I'm looking forward to it again.
"Belgium, like many other European countries, has had the entire country on lockdown this week as it deals with a coronavirus outbreak.
Juan Art posted his first off-road training session on Monday on the training app Strava, in the forests of Lichtal, near his home town of Hellenthals.
Van Aert's road wins this season include the Strade Bianche, Milan-San Remo, and two stages of the Tour de France. He then won silver medals in the road race and time trial at the World Championships in Imola, Italy.
