AG2R Citroën (the new name for the current AG2R La Mondiale for 2021) has announced that it has acquired 23-year-old French rider Nicolas Prodome to complete its roster for the upcoming season.
Prodome is a former member of AG2R's feeder team, Chambéry Cyclisme Formation, but will ride for the French national team Villefranche Beaujolais for the 2020 season, and in September and October for French World Tour team Cofidis as a stager for the Tour du Doubs, Paris-Camembert, Paris-Chonilly, and Paris-Tours.
However, the AG2R WorldTour team won the contract for the next two seasons of the Prodome.
"Prior to joining the Villefranche Beaujolais Club, I spent two wonderful years in the Chambéry Cyclisme formation (in 2018 and 2019)," Prodome said in a press release. 'After this exceptional year, I am delighted to be joining the professional ranks with the AG2R Citroën team. Stepping up to the World Tour level is like a childhood dream come true."
Prodome also ran as a stager for AG2R in 2018, so he already knows many of the players, including alumni from his Chambéry days.
"I am proud to be joining a team I know well and to be part of this adventure. I will also be reunited with some of the riders from Chambéry that I raced with, such as Clément Champoussin and Anthony Julien." [Nicolas is a great rider. He is one of the pillars of the French national team and it is the next logical step for him to become a professional."
"He should have joined us in 2020, but that was not possible. He wore the Chambéry Cyclisme Formation jersey for two seasons and was the team's foundation rider before moving to Villefranche."
"We are happy to have him back in our colors and his addition completes our recruitment for the 2021 season," said Ravneu.
Prodom will be the team's 11th and final new recruit. Other notable newcomers for next year include Olympic road race champion Greg Van Avermaet from the CCC team, Bob Jungels from Deceuninck-QuickStep, and Giro d'Italia stage winner Ben O'Connor, among others.
We also say goodbye to long-serving riders such as Pierre Latour, Alexis Vuillermoz, and Alexandre Jenyes, who are moving to French pro team Total Direct Energie, and Romain Bardet, who is joining Sunweb.
