George Bennett: Enhanced Ineos and Pogacar are Jumbo Visma's 2021 Challenges

Jumbo-Visma narrowly missed out on winning the Tour de France, but his combined strength won the Grand Tour at the Vuelta a España, and Primoš Roglic won the overall for the second year in a row in Madrid.

George Bennett was one of Logrich's supporters in both France and Spain, and he believes that Jumbo-Visma established itself as a reference point for the rest of the peloton.

Jumbo-Visma won 23 races in the shortened 2020 season, including seven Grand Tour stages in Milan-San Remo, Strade Bianche, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and tied for the lead in the UCI ranking with Detuning-Quick Step.

"Last year was a big leap forward, but this year I think we've stepped it up a notch," said Bennett. Bennett told Eurosport magazine. People are looking at our racing model. In a way, we imitated Ineos, but I think people will look at what we're doing and say, "Okay, this is the future."

Jumbo-Visma took Ineos Grenadier's place as the dominant team in the Tour, but the race was in the final stage ended in disappointment as Tadej Pogachar (UAE Team Emirates) took the maillot jaune from Roglic.

Ineos Grenadiers won the Giro d'Italia with Tao Geoghegan Hart and finished second in the Vuelta with Richard Carapaz.

Bennett, who won the Gran Piemonte, was second in Il Lombardia, and 12th overall in the Vuelta, acknowledged that the combined strength of the revamped Ineos and the individual talent of Pogachar would be a formidable challenge in 2021.

"If we can keep the band together, we will be in good shape," Bennett said.

"That includes Adam Yates, Daniel Martinez, and Richie Porte. There's also rumors of Alexandre Vlasov. ......

"Then there's Pogachar's UAE. [With what he did at the Tour, we could have an eight-strong team, but without him it would be hard to win. There are a lot of challenges and a lot of things we need to improve on. I'll leave that to "Future" George to deal with."

Bennett also paid tribute to leader Roglic, who overcame the trauma of his Tour defeat with four stage wins in Liege-Bastogne-Liege and the Vuelta.

"He's a really, really good guy, but don't be fooled. But off the bike, he's a gentleman," Bennett said.

"It's nice to run under a guy like that. It makes a big difference. I didn't think I wanted to ride the Vuelta after the Tour, but when Primoz said he wanted to, I was motivated."
