Van Garderen to remain with EF Pro Cycling in 2021

Tejay Van Garderen will remain with EF Pro Cycling in 2021. The American revealed the news in an Instagram post.

"Thrilled to announce that I will be riding for @efprocycling again for the 2021 season. We are entering season 12 and have a lot to look forward to. Let's go for it!!!!" Van Garderen wrote.

This news follows the recent announcement that EF Procycling will offer contract extensions to those athletes who accepted wage reductions for 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Van Garderen signed with EF Pro Cycling ahead of the 2019 season after spending seven years in BMC colors. The move represented a return of sorts for Van Garderen, who raced for Jonathan Vaughters' Team 5280 as a junior.

Van Garderen's best result since moving to EF was second place at last year's Criterium du Dauphiné, but he was forced to abandon the Tour de France after breaking his thumb in the opening week.

He went on to support Rigoberto Urán at this year's Tour and joined Hugh Carthy at the recent Vuelta a España. Van Garderen finished fifth overall in the 2012 and 2014 Tour de France and took a stage win in Ortisei at the 2017 Giro d'Italia.

EF Pro Cycling lost several key riders for 2021, including Dani Martinez to Ineos, Tanel Kangert to Mitchelton Scott, and Sepp Vanmarcke and Michael Woods to Israel Startup Nation were lost.
