Serratigit-WNT Pro Cycling announced Wednesday that it has signed Lizzie Banks for the 2021 season. In addition to Banks, the Germany-based UCI Continental team also announced the registration of 14 riders, including three newcomers, Marta Lach and Lotta Hentala.
"I am delighted to be joining Serratizit-WNT in 2021. We are all aware of the difficult circumstances that led to this move, but sometimes great opportunities come out of difficult situations, and this one did," Banks said in a team press release.
"Rarely is there such a clear match between what I think and what the team thinks. There is a lot of talent on this team that is looking to make it big, and we have proven world-class riders like Lisa Brennauer and Kirsten Wilde. I think Lisa and I will be an incredibly dynamic and dangerous duo in the finals. I think we can complement each other's riding styles and we can knock on the door of big wins in 2021."
Banks had a strong season with a stage win at the Giro Rosa and a podium finish at the GP Ploué Trofe. She renewed her contract with Equipe Paula Ka for next year, but in October announced that Equipe Paula Ka would be dissolved immediately after not receiving agreed sponsorship funding from financial backer Paule Ka.
Serratizit-WNT also announced the signing of Marta Lach from CCC-Liv and Lotta Hentala from Trek Segafredo.
"Joining the team has been an exciting and very challenging year for me. Dirk (Baldinger, team director) and I have a joint vision for the upcoming season, we have a good history together as we won our first professional championship in Thuringia in 2015 with Dirk as sport director.
The team also signed 11 riders, including recent Madrid Challenge winner Lisa Brennauer and track world champion Kirsten Wilde.
Brennauer said, "I am very happy to sign on for another year. There is a great atmosphere with the people around me and as a team we will have a lot more going on in 2021."
Wilde's road successes with Serratigit-WNT include victories in the Women's World Tour last year at Driedaagse Brugge-De-Panne and Gent-Wevelgem, where she also won the Healthy Aging Tour and Tour de Bretagne She won two stages in both.
"I feel comfortable, happy, and supported at Serratigit-WNT," Wilde said.
"My biggest dream, and that is to compete in the Olympics and be the best I can be during that time. I have freedom in my plan, but I have the backing of confidence to combine road and track. Most importantly, I have a team that believes in me."Also returning are Erica Magnardi, Lara Vieceli, Maria Julia Confalonieri, Sara Lykes, Katrine Hammes, Franziska Brause, Lynn Teitenberg, Julie Less, and Laura Asensio.
Players not returning to the team include Ahke Soe, who signed with Jumbo Visma, Claudia Koster, who moved to Hitech Products, and Ane Santesteban, who moved to Mitchelton Scott.
