Giro's Helios Spherical Helmet brings ethereal technology to a lower price point

The latest addition to Giro's road bike helmet range is the Helios Spherical, which aims to make crash safety technology more affordable.

As far as the best road bike helmets are concerned, there is an inherent tension in design, with breathability and lightness competing with the need for optimal protection. With Spherical Technology, Giro believes it has found a great solution to reduce the risk of deflection crashes without having to wear an uncomfortably warm helmet.

MIPS has been the definitive crash impact technology of the past decade, but Giro has evolved it in collaboration with the Swedish brand.

As more detailed medical evidence was compiled on the risk of rotational brain injury from angular impacts, industry engineering resources were redirected. The goal is to find better ways to reduce the deflected energy and its impact on the rider's head during a crash.

Giro's spherical innovation essentially allows for a dual helmet structure, allowing for an additional shear structure in addition to the MIPS liner. Best described as a ball and socket design, the gradual layering of foam allows for greater energy dissipation during a crash.

The Spherical technology found in helmets such as the Giro Aether MIPS makes a lot of sense, but is expensive to produce. Giro has now achieved sufficient scale in spherical production to meet market demand and offers a new Helios that incorporates this technology into its configuration.

Ergonomic comfort and adjustability are mediated by Giro's proven Roc-Loc 5 system. The new Giro Helios Spherical also has a generously padded liner that eliminates contact between the head and the helmet's safety structure, eliminating annoying chafing.

A collaboration between industrial engineers and MIPS, the Giro Helios Spherical has 15 vents to provide exceptional rotational impact protection and cooling properties.

Giro markets the new road and gravel riding helmet in five different colorways and three sizes (S, M, L). The approved weight is 250g and the recommended retail price is £229.
