Omer Shapira Wins Fourth Consecutive Title in Israeli Women's Road Race

Canyon-SRAM's Omer Shapira won the Israeli national championship road race for the fourth time on Saturday, beating Leanne Witkin by 13 seconds and Antonina Reznikov by 27 seconds.

Earlier this month, Shapira also won her first career national time trial title by more than four minutes over the 25km course, and on Saturday, she won her third consecutive road race title, a streak she had held jointly with Leah Goldstein, who won the title in 2007, 2008, and 2009 record, extending their winning streak to four in a row.

Shapira won his first national title in 2017 with Italian team Giusfredi Bianchi, and his second title in 2018 with American team Cyclance Pro Cycling. He then moved to Canyon-SRAM in 2019, where he continued his winning streak.

"It was a strange race," Shapira said of the course, which she had previously described as "not ideal for my strengths," despite the many climbs on the Beit Gvlin road race circuit between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

"In the end, I am very happy to have won and to be able to wear this jersey for another year," she said.

Canyon-SRAM also featured 2015 national road race champion and two-time TT champion Rotem Gafinowitz, with the 28-year-old finishing fifth, 12:05 behind her teammate.

Omer Goldstein of Israel Startup Nation took the men's road race title on the same day.
