The Movistar team announced Monday that Jelena Elich, Paula Patiño, Katrine Allerud, and Gloria Rodriguez have signed contract extensions through the end of the 2023 season; all four had one year remaining on their previous multi-year contracts, which were each offered a two-year renewal.
Movistar has already announced a two-year deal with Annemiek van Fruten, which will put her in a leadership role with the team through 2022.
The team also signed Emma Norsgaard and Leah Thomas, as well as under-23 Spanish champion Sara Martín.
Allerd joined the team this year and finished in the top 10 in stages of the Giro Rosa, Setmana Ciclista Valenciana, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, and won the Norwegian championship time trial.
Former Serbian road race and time trial national champion Erich, also in his first year with the team, finished in the top 10 at Omloop van het Hageland and La Perigord Ladies in 2020 and won the Giro Rosa and Madrid She also played on the Challenge stage.
Elitch was also a valuable teammate for Patiño, who finished eighth overall at the Giro Rosa. Joining the team in 2019 after a season at the World Cycling Center, Patiño has shown improvement and strength in mountain stage races.
Rodriguez is a former Spanish national champion and has been with the Movistar team since its inception in 2018. She is a strong support rider in all terrains and the team is committed to extending her strength and experience on the Women's World Tour.
Movistar is Annemike van Fruten, Leah Thomas, Katrine Allerud, Aude Biernik, Jelena Elich, Alicia Gonzalez, Barbara Guariski, Shayla Gutierrez, Sara Martín, and Emma Norsgaard, Lourdes Oyarbide, Paula Patiño, Gloria Rodriguez, Alba Teruel, and 14 others completed the registration.
