Fabio Jacobsen posted a photo of himself on social media for the first time since the race, reporting on his recovery from a career-threatening crash at the Tour de Pollogne.
The Deceuninck-QuickStep sprinter suffered serious facial injuries when he crashed into the barriers after Jumbo-Visma's Dylan Groenewegen maneuvered him in the first stage of the race.
Earlier this month, Jacobsen said he hoped to be back on the bike by December, a goal he has achieved. On Tuesday afternoon, he posted a photo of himself and partner Delores Tougje posing with the bike during a ride.
"Back on the bike with Delores Tougje on the new Specialized Tarmac SL7. He said."
"With this post I want to thank all the specialists who helped me, the same goes for Deceuninck-QuickStep and the team sponsors who supported my rehabilitation."
Jacobsen will undergo another surgery in January and is expected to return to training over the next few months.
"I am already looking forward to the next surgery in January. In the meantime, I plan to slowly resume training."
Jakobsen said.
Jacobsen is recovering well after the crash, but Grunewegen will be out of cycling until May 2021, following a decision by the UCI's discipline committee to impose a retroactive nine-month ban.
The decision was made earlier this month, but Deceueninck-QuickStep appears to be moving forward with legal action against the Dutchman. Team boss Patrick Lefebvre said earlier this month that he and insurance company Europ Assistance would proceed with the move in a Polish court.
