Cherelle leaves several injured in dog training collision

AG2R La Mondiale's Mickaël Scherer suffered serious injuries, including a broken collarbone, collapsed lung, and two broken ribs, after colliding with a dog that ran away from its owner while training in the south of France.

"You may wonder why I put a picture of such a cute dog on my timeline," he wrote in a relatively lighthearted message on Instagram Tuesday evening.

"Perhaps the morphine I was prescribed is kicking in...

"Of course, I can't blame the dog for trying to cross the road in front of me and crashing," Cherelle continued.

"Although I do resent her cowardly act of trying to escape while I was on the ground."

He then thanked many people, presumably passersby, and the emergency services who came to his aid by name.

"Later examination revealed a double fracture of the clavicle, two broken ribs, and a collapsed lung. But, as is often said, it could have been much worse."

AG2R La Mondial team doctor Eric Bouva also confirmed the injuries, adding that it is currently unknown how long the 34-year-old will be out of action.
