Davide Rebellin will continue his career in his 29th season with the Cambodian Cycling Academy as his new team for 2021.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (opens in new tab) reports that a continental team set up to train athletes from Cambodia for the 2023 Southeast Asian Games is the leading candidate to sign Rebellin.
Last season, the team competed in several European races, including the Etoile des Besseges, Tour of Antalya, and Mont Ventoux-Denivelle Challenge. Rebellin, from Meridiana Camen, competed in the 2020 Sibiu Tour and Italian national championship road race, finishing eighth overall in a stage race in Romania.
The Italian, who will turn 50 next August, has raced for 10 teams since turning pro with GB-MG Maglificio in 1993, after racing as Soinier for GB-MG Maglificio in 1992: then Polti, FDJ, Liquigas Gerolsteiner, Androni Giocattoli, Miche, Meridiana Kamen, CCC, Kuwait-Cartucho.es, and Sovac.
In his prime, Rebellin was the top rider in the peloton, achieving the famous Ardennes Triple in 2004 and winning the Amstel Gold Race, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and La Flèche Wallonne.
He also won silver medals at the 2001 Tirreno-Adriatico, 2008 Paris-Nice, 1997 San Sebastian, 1996 Giro d'Italia, and 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Rebellin had planned to join Hungary's E-Powers project for 2020, but the team disbanded in late November due to lack of sponsorship. Instead he returned to his Croatian team, Meridiana Kamen, where he was a member in 2019 and 2012.
He announced his retirement in 2019, but has since rejoined the team and is now racing into middle age and shows no signs of stopping.
