The Movistar team finalized its 2021 roster, with 29 players named to the men's team after 14 were named to the women's team in November.
Movistar is one of five major teams with both men's and women's teams on the World Tour, along with Team DSM (formerly Team Sunweb), Trek Segafredo, Mitchelton, and Groupama-FDJ.
Annemiek van Fruten has left Mitchelton-Scott to lead the Movistar women's team. Leah Thomas and Emma Cecilie Norsgaard will also be newly registered.
The Movistar men's team announced on Monday that it has completed the registration of 29 male players. New additions include Miguel Angel Lopez, Iván García Cortina, Gregor Mühlberger, Gonzalo Serrano, and Abner González.
Lopez became team leader along with Enric Mas, Marc Soler, and Alejandro Valverde, and the Spanish team continues to transform after losing Nairo Quintana and Mikel Landa following a major shakeup in 2020. The team now includes players from 11 different countries and has 16 players under the age of 26.
Still only 26 years old, Lopez has already won the Tour de Suisse, Volta a Catalunya, Tour of Colombia, and Tour de Lavenir overall.
He also made the final podium at the 2018 Vuelta a España and Giro d'Italia, and finished sixth in his debut at the Tour de France this fall.
Lopez was a strong overall contender in this year's Giro, but a high-speed crash in the opening time trial almost retired him before the race began.
Lopez includes young British sprinter Gabriel Caray and American Matteo Jorgenson.
Carlos Betancourt left the team during 2020 and Jurgen Laurents retired. Eduardo Prades moved to Delko-One Porvence and Eduardo Sepulveda to Androni Giocattoli.
