U23 riders Mats Wenzel and Louis Coclet join Leopard Pro Cycling

Leopard Pro Cycling has added two new riders to its 2021 Continental team. Three-time Luxembourg junior national champion Mats Wenzel will begin his U23 career alongside 19-year-old newcomer Louis Coclet (France).

Leopard recently saw two riders move to the World Tour program, with 21-year-old Swiss Mauro Schmid moving to Qhubeka Assos and 20-year-old Dane Matthias Skjermoes Jensen joining Trek Segafredo.

Wenzel, the reigning junior titleholder in time trial and cyclocross, just turned 18 this past weekend. He also won gold in cross-country. On the road, at just 16 years old, he was selected for the World Championships in Yorkshire, where he finished 42nd. Last year, he finished 10th overall in the Grand Prix of Lubriland.

"Mats has always shown great potential and we have been watching him for some time. He has shown good development in this short season and we wanted to add him to our team for 2021," team manager Markus Zingen said in a team statement. Of course, he is still very young for our team."

Coclet ran two seasons as a junior with Van Rijssel-AG2R La Mondiale, finishing seventh in the GP Bob Jungels, fourth overall and stage winner in the Ein Bougie-Vallomey Tour, and fifth in the French ITT national championships, his first as a rider under 23. In 2020, he placed sixth in the U23 time trial French championships.

"By signing Louis, we have strengthened our 2021 team with a very versatile rider, and I am sure that in 2021 Louis will definitely show his abilities on our team and I look forward to great results with the whole team," added Gingen.

Leopard will start the 2021 season at the Tour of Antalya in Turkey, followed by the Trofei Umag, Trofei Porec, and Istria Spring Trophy in Croatia.

Two more riders are expected to be added soon, bringing the total to 12. 2021 Leopard Pro Cycling current lineup: from Luxembourg Loic Bettendorf, Colin Heidelscheidt, Arthur Crookers, Cedric Preece and Mats Wenzel, Patrick Haller and Miguel Heidemann from Germany, Jan Maas from the Netherlands, Philippe Maciejuk from Poland, and Louis Coclet from France.
