Organizers of the Lott-Thüringen Ladies Tour announced Monday that the event will be held May 25-30 as part of the 2. Pro Series, an important prelude to next summer's Olympic Games in Tokyo. In a press release, organizers also confirmed that more than 20 teams have already signed up to participate in the six-day race.
"The Tour will be held again next year. This is because, despite the difficulties, many sponsors have already pledged their support for 2021," said Vera Hohlfeld, head of the competition.
This year's Lott-Thuringian Ladies Tour was scheduled to start on May 26, but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 coronavirus, which interrupted the cycling season from March to early August.
The 33rd Lott-Thuringian Ladies Tour will take place in May, with 750 km of racing over six days.
There will be slight changes to the order of the stages, including the start in Schmeln and the finale in Gotha.
The stages will also include Gera (May 26), Schleiz (May 27), Deltendorf (May 28) with some 16% steep climbs, and Weimar (May 29) via Bad Belka and Ettersberg. The final route will be determined in the coming weeks, organizers announced in a press release.
"Plans were already well advanced for the race, which was cancelled last May.
The postponed Olympics will be held in Tokyo from July 23 to August 8, making the Lott-Thuringia Ladies Tour an important stage race leading up to the Games.
"We know it is an Olympic year. We have already received inquiries from many teams," said Hohlfeld.
The organization confirmed that only 20 teams with six riders each would be invited, but more than 20 teams have already signed up to compete, including the new Jumbo-Visma Women's Team, Canyon-SRAM, and Movistar Team Women.
