Anacona, the winner, suffered injuries to his face and knee after a mountain bike fall while training in Colombia last week.
According to L'Equipe, Anacona did not lose consciousness, but required surgery on his face and stitches on his left knee. She also injured her ribs and bruised her kidneys.
"Our rider underwent facial surgery and had the outside of her eye sutured. His left knee was also sutured." Examination revealed an intercostal lesion and a kidney contusion, which resulted in temporary hematuria.
The length of time Anacona has been off the bike is unknown, and Arkea Samsic said he is "in constant contact with the doctors who treated the cyclist in Colombia."
Anacona joined Arkea Samsic at the beginning of the 2020 season, moving from Movistar with fellow countryman Nairo Quintana. Anacona, a Boyaca native, competed in the Tour de France in support of Quintana and finished the season with a third-place finish in the Plueva Vilafranca Ordidiaco Classica in October.
Now 32, Anacona turned pro in Lampre in 2012 and achieved his greatest success in 2014, winning the Vuelta a EspaƱa in Valdelinares. The following year he teamed up with Quintana in Movistar, and in 2019 he won the overall at the Vuelta a San Juan.
