Peter Sagan has only one win in 2020, but the Beulah Hansgrohe rider continues to attract attention at races and on social media. On Wednesday, as the sun set in Monaco, Sagan posted for the first time in his cycling career.
"Hey. I've never seen anything like this in Monaco before. It's a beautiful day. I rode for 5 hours today and there's too much snow to go home," the three-time road racing world champion said on his Instagram page, showing one to two centimeters of new precipitation that covered the roads and froze cars to a standstill. 'Just the last two kilometers to Monaco [laughs]. I'll be fine."
Monaco gets an average of 4 inches of rain in December, but it is rare for it to get cold enough to snow. The last significant snow cover on the French Riviera was in February 2018.
Peter Sagan recorded a video while running with his Bora teammates Eric Bashka and Yulai Sagan The 30-year-old sprinter has a home in Monaco, and because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, he spent seven weeks in the spring in the gym on the rollers in captivity spent training.
A month ago, the Slovak cyclist provided social media with a video of himself riding in the passenger seat of a jet fighter plane, capturing various aerial maneuvers that generate more than 7 Gs.
Sagan's last race was the Giro d'Italia in October, where he won stage 10, one victory that was unlike any other this season. In total, he had six top-five finishes in Italy and five in the Tour de France, but missed out on a stage win. He finished second in the points standings in both events.
As reported earlier in Cycling News, his contract with Bora-Hansgrohe expires at the end of next year, but he plans to focus on road racing until at least 2024.
